Kim grew up in Hawaii with an older sister and parents who loved the Lord. After several mission trips throughout high school and college, she knew that God had called her to justice work in his Kingdom. To learn more about this work she received her Masters in Transformational Urban Leadership from Azusa Pacific University, which allowed her to live among and serve alongside the urban poor in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Although she loved her time in Rio, she knows that God had called her to the city of Los Angeles, which had captured her heart in college. She is looking forward to this new journey with Word Made Flesh in LA and the amazing things God will do along the way.

Shannon and her older brother were raised by their parents to love and follow the Lord. Though raised in San Diego, Shannon’s parents instilled in her the desire to follow God’s call to serve the poor and broken worldwide. After high school, Shannon journeyed through two international YWAM schools (Discipleship Training and Biblical Counseling). These experiences confirmed the calling on her life to live in community focused on bringing the hope of Christ to the oppressed. She completed her B.A in International Business at George Fox University and her M.A in Transformational Urban Leadership through Azusa Pacific University. She spent 19 months in New Delhi India, living and serving among the slum communities. She is expectant and excited as this new journey with Word Made Flesh and the city of Los Angeles begins.

Word Made Flesh has deeply shaped David’s vocation and formation for nearly twenty years. His previous service and commitments with WMF have included several Discovery Teams, an internship in Brazil and South Africa, and a few years as a U.S. board member. Most recently, David spent seven years serving and sharing life with the WMF community in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His time there included ministry among vulnerable children and youth living or working on the streets of downtown Buenos Aires. His friendships in Argentina continue to impact him in meaningful ways.

David is now serving in areas of staff care and formation for the global WMF community. He is working in this community care role while rooted in the new WMF community in Long Beach, CA. David never would have imagined that his latest commitment to WMF would bring him back to his hometown of Long Beach, one of his favorite places in the world (along with Buenos Aires!). He is also currently studying spiritual formation at George Fox Seminary in Portland through a distance-learning program. David is grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside WMF bearing witness to hope among the vulnerable, while supporting the community in living a sustainable and thriving vocation.
