Early in the month of December as we decorated our artificial Christmas tree one fifth grader exclaimed with delight as she hung the last ornament, “How beautiful!” then added pensively, “We don’t have a Christmas tree at home.” As we plugged in the lights, a second grader came into the room and drew close to the 3-foot tree set atop the table, her nose barely reaching the first branches. With a huge grin she whispered, “I don’t have a Christmas tree at home.”
At WMF Moldova we are called and committed to offer children-at-risk a place of safety and hope where they can learn, heal and grow. It’s moments like these around the Christmas tree remind us why it’s worth the risk of loving these children and praying for God to brighten their future.
We are extremely grateful for the five years we have been able to serve among these children in vacant space at a public school. The partnership with this school has been key to the relationships built with the kids and families. We even made a virtual tour of our facility on our blog.
However, on the December 16th,2015 we were informed that we must completely move out by Christmas because the authorities are turning off heat and water to the building!
Within a week we formed a search team, scoured the newspaper, walked the neighborhood and identified a property that is perfectly suited to serve our children and their families! Pictured below is the space we have identified, located just beyond the school grounds and therefore accessible for all the children we currently serve.
As you can see this is an unfinished space, but designed with space for a kitchen and shower facilities, a private street entrance and ample space to fit our current needs.
Won’t you help us make this dream a reality?
We invite you to join our team and pray for us, send a financial gift, or come for a visit to join in the action first-hand!
Thank you for considering a donation to help us raise funds for WMF Moldova to put down roots in this new space. We need $65,000 to purchase the property and another estimated $25,000 to finish the interior and purchase necessary appliances.
With the advent of a new year, we are surely taking a huge step into something new for our community. But we believe that God is leading us to take this risk, step out in faith and trust Him to continue the work He has begun in us.
Happy New Year!
