Pathways into Staff Life
Most of our long-term staff begin with a season of learning and service before stepping into leadership. We encourage a posture of humility, discernment, and growth.
- Step 1: Formation & Exposure Discovery Teams, Servant Teams, and Internships provide a first look at WMF communities.
- Step 2: Entry-Level Staff (2–3 years) Roles aligned with experience brought to the team allow new staff to serve alongside local leaders, learn the needs of the community, and practice advocacy and presence.
- Step 3: Long-Term Staff (3+ years) Positions such as Community Administrator, Program Director, or Advocacy Coordinator invite deeper leadership and stewardship of WMF’s mission in community.

Title: Community Development Fellow

Vision

The Community Development Fellow role embodies this vision by learning deeply from the local context and participating in community life that reconciles the church with the poor.
Position Summary
The Community Development Fellow is an entry-level role designed for those discerning long-term service and leadership within Word Made Flesh. Fellows spend their first year immersed in the life of a local WMF Community, learning language, engaging in spiritual formation, adapting cross-culturally, and participating in community programs.
This fellowship emphasizes learning before leading, understanding the needs, strengths, and dreams of the community while contributing strategically to its holistic development. At the end of the first year, fellows collaborate with local leadership to discern and define a more specific long-term role based on their skills and the community’s priorities.
Responsibilities
Learning and Integration
- Commit to 40 accountable hours per week, including:
- Language learning
- Cultural adaptation
- Spiritual formation
- Service with community programs
- Local integration and relationship-building
- Submit a regular plan for how accountable hours will be spent, in collaboration with supervisors
Language Learning
- Pursue local language acquisition through an institute or private tutoring (B1 to B2 proficiency encouraged)
- Engage in daily conversation practice and cultural study to deepen connection and understanding
Cultural Adaptation
- Intentionally learn about local culture, beliefs, and social realities
- Practice incarnational presence by listening, observing, and participating in community rhythms
- Maintain a strong personal faith while adapting to a new cultural context
Spiritual Formation
- Complete pre-departure reading and discussions with the Director of Community Care
- Participate in first-term reading and formation sessions
- Meet monthly with a spiritual director and attend quarterly retreats
- Engage in local church life and establish healthy spiritual rhythms
Community Involvement
- Participate in community activities, prayer, and staff meetings
- Serve alongside local programs supporting children, youth, and families
- Meet regularly with the Field Director or Community Care Coordinator for reflection and support
Local Integration
- Build authentic relationships both within and beyond the WMF community
- Explore local churches, friendships, and projects that nurture holistic well-being
- Strive to make the host community a true home during your fellowship
Evaluation
- At the end of the first year, fellows collaborate with leadership to create an individualized role description for continued service

The Advocacy Coordinator will cultivate and manage relationships with donors, partners, and supporters across all Word Made Flesh Communities. This role combines fundraising, stewardship, partnership development, and advocacy to advance the mission and impact of Word Made Flesh globally.
Advocacy Coordinators fully participate in the life of their local Word Made Flesh Community, engaging in shared rhythms of prayer, service, and reflection while building meaningful relationships with donors, partners, and supporters.
Responsibilities
Fundraising & Partnership Development
- Identify and engage new individual, institutional, and corporate donors
- Develop and implement strategies for donor cultivation, stewardship, and retention
- Support the planning and execution of community-based and international fundraising initiatives
- Monitor and report on funding progress and donor engagement
- Collaborate with local and international teams to expand and strengthen partnerships
Advocacy & Storytelling
- Share the story of Word Made Flesh and the impact of its programs with donors, partners, and wider audiences

The Spiritual Formation & Discipleship Coordinator will nurture the holistic spiritual growth, self-care, and formation of staff and community members across Word Made Flesh Communities. This role focuses on fostering healthy community life, deepening relational connection, and equipping staff for sustainable ministry.
Coordinators fully participate in the life of the WMF Community, engaging in shared rhythms of prayer, service, and reflection, while guiding others to integrate spiritual formation into daily ministry and relationships.
Responsibilities
Spiritual Formation & Community Care
- Support staff in their holistic wellbeing, including emotional, spiritual, and relational health
- Organize daily prayer, worship, and formation activities
- Lead or coordinate annual retreats and formation events
- Ensure covenantal commitments and community agreements are honored

Position Summary
The Short-Term Program Coordinator will organize and lead logistical coordination for visiting students, internships and short-term teams with Word Made Flesh. They will fully participate in the WMF community life while focusing their time on discipleship and formation of short-term participants.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Field Director, the selected candidate will be responsible to:

Coordinators will collaborate with local staff to design, implement, and evaluate sustainable enterprise activities that align with the vision and mission of Word Made Flesh. The Finance, Budgeting & Operations Manager will oversee financial management, budgeting, and operational processes within Word Made Flesh Communities, ensuring compliance, transparency, and sustainability. This role provides strategic oversight of finance and operations while supporting local staff and collaborating with international offices to uphold organizational policies and best practices.
Responsibilities
Financial Oversight & Budgeting
- Develop, monitor, and report on annual budgets for community programs and international donations
- Manage financial records, reporting, and accounting systems according to organizational and legal requirements
- Ensure timely reporting to donors and international offices
- Track and monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with budgets

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications for staff at WMF:
- Participation in a WMF Servant Team, US Internship, International Internship, or Discovery Team
- Experience living cross-culturally and/or with other NGOs will be taken into consideration in lieu of prior participation with WMF
- 18 years of age or older
- Specific qualifications for each opening can be found in the position descriptions
