Claver was born in Mugutu in the province of Gitega. He has been married since 2010 to Lumula and they have 2 children, all boys. He graduated from the University of Burundi in 2008 with a degree in Political Science. Claver has worked with WMF Burundi first as a Social Animator and then as a Social Worker in the RRC project. Since November 2015, he has worked as an educator and facilitates the 4-H and Healing Play project in the Bugendana community.

Emmanuel Gahungu was born at Higiro Hill in the Gitega Province. He is married to his wife and has six children. He underwent training in reading and writing in the Catholic Church and has been working as a gardener at the Gubganeza Center of WMF Burundi in Gitega since 2018.

Faustin was born in the Musigati community of the Bubanza province and is married and a father of two children (including a girl and a boy). He has a Baccalaureate in Clinical and Social Psychology obtained at the University Hope for Africa in 2016.
He was an agent of the Ministry of Education as a teacher for 13 years and is a founding member of the Association for Dignity and Solidarity (ADS / Inkingi) which campaigns for the rights of the victims of different crises which shook Burundi. Currently, Faustin works at WMF Burundi as a Psychologist and oversees the project “Social Cohesion and Community Resilience” in the community of Musigati in the province of Bubanza. Faustin is a Zouk and loves basketball as a sport.

Originally from the Kabezi community in the Bujumbura province, Alexis Hatungimana is married and has one child. After obtaining his bachelor’s degree in clinical and social psychology at the University of Burundi in 2007, he worked in both national and international organizations where he exercised several responsibilities in the psychosocial field as a psychosocial assistant, psychologist, community mobilizer, supervisor, and coordinator of projects. He has been working at WMF Burundi since 2008.
Besides his professional functions, Alexis is a defender of human rights in general and the rights of disabled people in particular. Since 2002, he has been an active member of the Association of People with Disabilities and of the Rights of Victims of Violence. Alexis is a trainer in psychosocial, sexual, and reproductive health and rights. In addition to his bachelor’s degree, he holds two superior development certificates in Leadership and Human Resources Management as well as a Project Monitoring and Evaluation obtained at the Research and Development Center in 2018. He loves his family and is passionate about neighborly love, counseling, sports and music. His area of interest is community life and the defense of human rights.

Estella Ishaka was born in the Gitega province and is married and mother of 4 children including 3 girls and 1 boy. She is a Licensed Associate in English at the ENS and since 2015 has overseen the 4_H project as an Educator at Word Made Flesh Burundi, facilitating the activities of the project at the three Pilot Schools of the Gitega community.

Edouard graduated from the University of Burundi in the Department of Psychology and Educational Sciences. He has worked at different organizations where he provided psycho-social assistance to vulnerable people. He was also the manager for the GBV (Gender-Based Violence) project at the International Rescue Committee where he ensured the follow-up and advocacy for survivors of Gender Based Violence. At Word Made Flesh Burundi, Edouard Kabayabaya works as a counselor within the Building of Bridges in Burundi (BBB) project. He raises awareness in the community and runs the community therapeutic salon in Gatabo. He is a human rights activist, husband, and father of one son.

Elie Kurubone was born in the Gitega province and is married with 8 children and is the grandfather of 38 children. Before working at WMF Burundi, Elie worked in the Rural Development Project, SRD Kirimiro, and MIPAREC. Since 2015 he has been an employee of WMF Burundi.

Ferdinand was born in 1980 in Mutambu, Bujumbura province. He has been a teacher since 2011 and obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Clinical and Social Psychology in 2013 after three months of an internship at CERES. Since 2014, he has worked with WMF Burundi in the GIZ project, the psychosocial care program for children affected by the 2015 crisis in Ruziba, and the VOT (Victims of Torture) project among others. Since 2019, he has been part of the Akariho Karavugwa program as the provincial focal point of Bujumbura where he provides psychosocial care for people traumatized by the repetitive crises that Burundi has experienced for years.

Marie Manirakiza was born in Giheta in the province of Gitega. She is a widow but has 2 children. Marie became part of the WMF Burundi community after undergoing psychosocial treatment in one of WMF Burundi listening rooms in the Giheta Municipality. She works in the Farming God’s Way project within WMF Burundi and is passionate about justice.

A Burundian national, married and father of two, Lambert Muhitira was born in the community of Mutambu in the province of Bujumbura. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Clinical and Social Psychology obtained from the University of Burundi in 2014.
He was employed by the Ministry of Education as a teacher and then Prefect of Studies at a high school for four years. Since 2015, he has worked with WMF Burundi as a psychologist and since 2018 has provided psychosocial support for victims of the various crisis that have rocked the country within the Nyubahiriza program. Lambert is a facilitator and trainer in the Alternative to Violence Program and facilitates memory healings. He is passionate about Christian music and enjoys playing the piano. He enjoys contemplating nature and is therefore a member of the Environmental Protection Association.

Sereverien Ndahabonyimana was born in the Gitega province. He is married, has 6 children, and is the grandfather of 7 children. In 1980 he began the trades of masonry and carpentry and in 1992 worked with the Brothers’ Congregation in the Catholic Church. He then worked in the Kirimiro project in the Cankuzo Province. Since 2008 until today he works at WMF Burundi and loves his job.

Born in 1975 in Kibago, Martin Ndayishemeze has been married since 2005 to Félicité and they have 6 children including 2 girls and 4 boys. He graduated in 2004 with a degree in Clinical and Social Psychology. From 2005 to 2009, he was the psychologist in the Kibago and Mabanda municipalities within the HN_TPO Organization in the Buza project and Nyanza Lac in the VBG project with a focus on the healing of psychological trauma especially among those who are victims of sexual violence. He was also a teacher at the communal high school in Mabanda for a couple years, and from 2017 to the present day he has been the Provincial Coordinator in Makamba in the Building Bridges in Burundi Project (BBB) within Word Made Flesh Burundi. Martin is a Human Rights Defender and enjoys sports in his spare time.

Joselyne Ndayishimiye was born in 1979. She is Burundian and is married to Joseph Gakuba and they live in Bujumbura, Burundi. They have 4 boys and 2 girls. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Management and Administration. She began her work
with THARS in 2010 where she was hired as the organization’s accountant and she was responsible for financial transactions, reporting and the accounting for the Conflict Mitigation funded by USAID which was a cross-country program for Burundi, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
She has financially managed different other community projects including the Self Help Group, and Rescue and Reintegrate Children programs, all funded by Kindernothilfe Germany. In 2014, Joselyne was named Manager in charge of the THARS Finance Department. From 2017 until now, she holds the position of the THARS Administrative and Financial Director.
Joselyne is a facilitator of the Alternative to Violence Program (AVP), and has also received training on Basic Psychosocial Care, Healing of Memories, and Peaceful Conflict Resolution.
She likes to work in quiet environment and likes the job well done. She believes in Jesus as her Lord and Savior. In everything she does, she recognizes that there is only one Master (God) who will reward each one according to what he/she has done.

Marie Goreth Ndikumana is of Burundi nationality and was born in Gitaramuka, Mwaro Province. She is married and is the mother of 6 children. From October 2008 to June 2011 she was the receptionist at WMF Burundi and from June 2011 to June 2012 she worked as the Psychosocial Assistant at WMF Burundi. In this role she facilitated community awareness sessions on the problem of trauma and psychosocial assistance structure by providing individual and family counseling sessions for victims of torture.
Since 2017 she has been responsible for the supervision of the support group for vulnerable ranges. And from April 2017 to this day she serves as an accountant for WMF Burundi.

She has a diploma of License in Clinical and Social Psychology obtained from the University of the Great LACS in 2014. Obed Nijimbere is of Burundian nationality and grew up in a Christian family. He has five brothers and three sisters and is married to Annociatte. He is the pastor in the Church of the Glorious Lord. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Hope Africa University.
Some of the training he has undergone is: Training of teachers and educators in support of the Burundi 4-H project in partnership with the State University of Washington; healing memory training of victims affected by the history of war and family conflicts; peaceful conflict resolution training through the PAV approach; promotion and sanitation of drinking water in a community to fight dirty hand diseases; training on conflict transformation and non-violent communication; community training in improving the environment and fighting against malnutrition by fertilizing the soil with the effective method of cultivation in vulnerable households; and further training on nutrition and effective methods of promoting it.
Obed was also a Program Assistant and monitored the supervision of students at risk of malnutrition by a Burundi-4H program supported by the State University of Washington. He was also the National Coordinator in Play for Peace (Healing Play with games sessions). Since 2015 Obed has been the Program Manager at WMF Burundi and monitors the ongoing projects of the organization with compilation of narrative reports. He is fond of guitar music, games, and sports.

Cassien Niko is married to Dona Fabiola and is the father of 5 children, including twins. He has a BA in Psychology and is also Pastor of Trinity Tabernacle Church Muyinga. Before coming to WMF Burundi, he worked with an Organization that focused in the areas of reconciliation, economic empowerment of widows, and counseling. He is currently a Psychologist at the Nyubahiriza Project in the province of Muyinga where he is responsible for the Community Therapeutic Salon in the psychosocial care of victims of trauma and remains always passionate about counseling.

Alexis Niyibigira has a Diploma in Clinical and Social Psychology from the National University of Burundi. Since 2004, he has been working with different NGOs in governance, peace-building, reconciliation, and trauma healing programs.
Through the Governance and Peace Building Program he strengthened the capacity of local stakeholders of Bujumbura Rural to bring ex-combatants together for peace within their communities. During the whole period of his career, he conducted several capacity building workshops in trauma management, conflict transformation, and community reconciliation. He worked to bring community awareness and a desire for peace, trauma awareness, and reconciliation.
Now, he works at WMF Burundi and oversees the program of psychosocial support to victims of the process for transitional justice founded by GIZ/ZFD. His focus is projects that promote dealing with the past, social cohesion, human security, and resilience for Burundian youth and Burundi local communities. As a trainer for trauma healing, he oversees the therapeutic community rooms, conducts workshops for healing of memories, and supervises the Alternative to Violence Program (AVP) for peace building and social cohesion. He contributes to community awareness on the mechanisms of transitional justice, and the role of the TRC and communities in the process. Alexis is married and the father of 4 children. He enjoys reading and singing in his spare time.

Sauvathile Niyibogora is married with 2 children and is a social worker at WMF Burundi. She is responsible for Feeding of Hunger Children of Batwa group, SHONA project at Gitega / THARS (WMF Burundi) center. Her office is based at the WMF Burundi center with the sewing project. She works with women to empower them on how they can live and manage their families’ issues.

David Niyonzima is the Executive Director and founder of Word Made Flesh Burundi (WMF-Burundi). In promoting psychosocial approaches to rebuilding communities after atrocities, David founded Trauma Healing and Reconciliation Services (THARS) in 2002. In 2019, THARS combined its history and expertise with Word Made Flesh International to become WMF-Burundi. Having personally experienced the devastating effects of genocide, David is convinced that dealing with the past is necessary for lasting peace.
As well as being the Executive Director of Word Made Flesh Burundi, David also serves as the Vince Chancellor and Acting Dean in the School of Leadership and Governance at International Leadership University in Burundi. David is married to Félicité, has 4 grown children and two grandsons. He lives in Bujumbura, Burundi.

Jacqueline has been working with WMF Burundi since 2006 as the Psychosocial Assistant and Coordinator of the Self Help Group (SHG) project. Married and mother of four children, she currently lives in Gitega Province. Jacqueline is also a student at the Paramedical Institute of Gitega studying Community Development. She works to empower her community to be all that it can be and to promote the well-being of those within her community.

Pélagie Niyuhire was was born in Rurambira, Vugizo province Makamba. He has a Bachelor Degree in Psychology Clinical and Social Option. From 2017 until today, he works at WMF Burundi as a psychologist counseling victims of trauma. Bujumbura Kanyosha is his current residence, and he enjoys playing with children and defending their rights.

Adelaide Nizigiyimana was born in Nyabihanga, Mwaro Province. She is a widow and has a child. Adelaide has been a social worker at WMF Burundi since 2007 after undergoing psychosocial treatment in one of WMF Burundi’s ‘listening rooms. Now she works in the Feeding for Hunger Children and SHONA(Sewing) project within WMF Burundi. She loves her work!

Gérard Ntakarutimana was born at Mirama Hill, Gitega Municipality and Gitega Province. He is married to his wife and has two children. He underwent training in reading and writing in the Catholic Church and has been working as a gardener at the Gubganeza Center of WMF Burundi in Gitega since 2012.

Felicite Ntikurako is married and the mother of 4 children. She graduated in Clinical and Social Psychology since 2014. From 1985-1990 she was a teacher at the Primary School of Ruhehe in Kirundo province and then from 1990-1993 she was a French professor at the pastoral school of Kwibuka.
From 1996-1997 she attended “Diakonia Collègue” institute in Kenya where she received a Diploma in Peace and Conflict Studies. Since 2000 she has been one of the WMF Burundi team members. From 2003-2008 she oversaw the programs in the VOT (Victims of Torture) program and from 2008-2014 was a trainer in the Tubirengere Project. Now she is a Clinical and Social Psychologist in Muha commune of Bujumbura Mairie. She enjoys music and dance.

Sandrine Ntiranyuhura is of Burundian nationality originating from the Mukiki community in the province of Bujumbura Rurale. She is married and has been the cashier at WMF Burundi since the beginning of January in 2019 although she has worked with WMF Burundi since 2016 in multiple capacities. Before working at WMF Burundi, Sandrine worked in a Chinese bakery for a year.

Originally from Kibimba Hill in the Gitega Province, Patience Nziza is married and has a brother and four sisters. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Bible and Theology from the Hope University of Africa in 2012.
He worked as an intern at the Union of Biblical Groups in Burundi (UGBB) for 2 months and from 2013 to 2014 worked as the secretary of WMF Burundi based in Gitega. Since 2015 Patience has worked as the manager of the Gubaneza center of WMF Burundi at Gitega.
Besides his responsibilities with THARS, Patience NZIZA obtained a trainer’s certificate in the Program of Alternative to Violence (AVP) in 2013 and a certificate of Servant Leadership at the Christian Life Church Ministries in 2018. He is a Christian musician and loves to sing.

Josué Bucumi Shukuru was born in the Kayogoro community of the Makamba province. He has a bachelor’s degree in Clinical and Social Psychology from the University of the Great Lakes in Burundi. He has worked as a volunteer with the Burundi Red Cross in the identification of vulnerable and returned families to assist them in carrying out microprojects. Since 2019, Josué has worked at WMF Burundi and is responsible for the psychosocial care of traumatized people, as part of the Building Bridges in Burundi (BBB) project in Kayogoro, southern Burundi.
Josué is passionate about nature and is also a fan of football and basketball. He loves peace and justice and wishes to continue his career as a counselor.

Déogratias Uwimana was born in Mubira- Shombo- Muramvya and is married with one child. He has a degree in Clinical and Social Psychology at the University of the Great Lakes. He is also a trainee at the Kinama Health Center in the psychosocial and medical care of people living with HIV / AIDS as well as offering counseling and therapeutic observance. From April 2017 to the present, Déogratias has worked for WMF Burundi as a counselor within the framework of the Building Bridges in Burundi (BBB) project and is responsible for the psychosocial care of traumatized people.
