October 2010 Prayer Letter

Dear Family and Friends,

As the leaves start to fall, the temperature begins to gradually drop, baseballs are traded in for footballs, and lemonade is replaced with hot chocolate, may the Lord’s choicest blessings be upon you.

Greetings from the fine city of Omaha! It’s been a month since you last heard from me, and I’m glad to tell you life is good! Football season is in full swing, and Nebraskans are absolutely crazy about their Cornhuskers. I walked into a grocery store on the opening Saturday of college football season, and literally nine out of every ten people were wearing a red Nebraska shirt. (For those of you worried about where my allegiance lies…Go Badgers!)

This month I will be commissioned at Word Made Flesh during our semi-annual board meeting. I can’t help but think about the most famous commission in the Bible, The Great Commission. It is my goal in serving here to live according to Jesus’ final instructions to His disciples, and it is truly a blessing and a privilege to have the opportunity to serve others in the way that God has called me.

I recently completed my three-month review with Word Made Flesh. My director Liz and I came up with a set of support-raising goals for the near future. One of my goals is to come up with seventy more names to add to my mailing list. If you know of anyone who might be interested in supporting what I am doing at Word Made Flesh, I would really appreciate your referral! My email address is jeff.swart@wordmadeflesh.org and my phone number is 402-659-6813.

As I make progress towards being fully supported by family and friends, my next goal is to receive $500 in monthly support by the time of my six-month review. I am currently receiving a little over $100 through monthly commitments. Would you prayerfully consider partnering with me and with Word Made Flesh in this way as we strive to serve Jesus among the most vulnerable of the world’s poor?

Grace and Peace,

Jeff Swart

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
