A Twittered Letter. June 2009.

Hi friends!

Today I’m packing up my desk and finishing up the last minute details to head home for a vacation, visiting family in Michigan. I can’t wait! I feel that pre-vacation high, woohoo!

Have you heard of this internet thing- Twitter? Apparently you’re supposed to send short lines of things that you are doing, thinking, or imagining ie: “Tweets.” Here’s the last two weeks from me… Twitter style.

Ride with roommate Marcia to work, she makes lots of jokes in the morning, makes me smile. First cup of coffee: ¼ cup of water microwaved, ¾ cup coffee- still not used to the strong brew here, miss Pilgrim Manor’s coffee. Finish up two grant applications, one for Sierra Leone, one for a new position salary, am inspired again by the work that we do. Check e-mails, waiting on all the insurance enrollment forms for office staff health insurance. Mental note: send nagging message to ___. Get to pre-read over new issue of the Cry– my first article in print is in the summer 2009 issue on humility! Needed lots of edits, glad we have such a great editor on staff! Contact Sierra Leone about selling bags young men in their tailor program make on the WMF website, reminds me that I need to clean out my purse. Check e-mail. Send money to Thailand for several short term trips coming up, they work with women in the sex trade there. Answer questions from new staff about the salary they will be raising. Answer questions from exiting staff about salary and continuing coverage insurance. Second cup of coffee in place of lunch, made this pot myself the way I like it. Go to staff meeting, reading Henri Nouwen’s The Inner Voice of Love as a community, one of my favorite books. “Your vocation is to give and receive love.” Nag 11 staff members about insurance enrollment forms. Visit volunteer site where the Omaha Urban League is stuffing our prayer letters. Help load finished letters (6000 pieces) onto mail trays to be sent. Write more e-mails. Look at Quickbooks with Paul, he’s restructuring our company file so that we can make better use of the accounting software we have. Am so excited! Feel like a total nerd! Pay bills. Pay more bills. Third cup of coffee. Spill coffee on computer. Check out the sweet Form 990 (tax form) our accountants put together! Send it in certified mail. Buy stamps while at the post office. Feel relieved that I’m done with the IRS for the moment until I get back from post office and have another monthly tax form in the mail. Get confused about tax form. Call the IRS. Nice lady on the phone, surprises me. Show Paul how to run payroll while I’m on vacation. Feel happy that I work with someone so smart. Eat 16 jolly ranchers from the front desk, who decided that we should put candy there? Enjoy Lectio Divina style staff prayer through John 1:15-34. Deep breath. Smell incense. Thank God for the sun and for His Love.

It was a good couple weeks.

Love,

Liz
