December 1996 Prayer Letter

December 16, 1996

Dear Friends & Family,

Greetings to you in the precious name of Jesus!  Chris and I are looking forward to celebrating our first Christmas together as a family.  Because of Christ, we truly have much to celebrate.

Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who  were in distress…For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.  And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end.  He will reign on David's throne and over his     kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and             forever.  The zeal of the Lord will accomplish this.                   -Isaiah 9:1,6-7

Christ came to bring peace, justice, and righteousness.  He has saved us from a meaningless life, reconciled us to God, and set us apart as His ambassadors.

We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.

                                                            -2 Corinthians 5:20

During this Christmas season let us remember why Jesus came to earth, and realize that through us He desires to bring peace, justice, and righteousness to hurting and dying people.

—————————————–

Chris and I have recently returned from a season of sharing at churches and colleges in California.  We had a productive time there and have returned encouraged. We are eager to see the LORD's provision for the poor and the lost accomplished through WMF.

We cannot thank you enough for continually holding us in prayer and for your sacrificial gifts that meet our needs.  It has been a real challenge taking over the responsibilities of International Director.  Please pray that God will continue to give Chris wisdom, discernment, and a keen ear to hear God's voice as he serves in this role.

We will be with family in Indianapolis and Omaha for the holidays.  In January, Chris will be taking a two-week graduate course at Fuller Theological Seminary entitled  “Understanding Poverty.”  In February  we'll be traveling back to India for 2 weeks for board meetings and making preparations for summer teams.  Thank you in advance for your prayers in these upcoming days.

May the peace of God be with you this Christmas and always.
