September 2011
Here’s a riddle for you. I’m eating mandarins and cheese by the pound. I had the hardest time that I’ve ever had adjusting back the altitude after traveling to the States—lots of vomiting and exhaustion. I’ve gained twelve pounds in the past four months. And a few times, I’ve had this strange sensation that I have a fish swimming around in my belly.
Yes, I’m pregnant =).
Mache and I are overjoyed at this development, though we sometimes get nervous at the way this child will tumble into our neatly designed independent lives and take over everything. But we’ve ticked off each week with excitement, and now wanted to share this development with you.
So you could pray, of course. And suggest ridiculous baby names (most outrageous wins a prize!). And so you could share in the joy of this growing life with us.
I’m due to have the baby in mid-January, and if everything goes smoothly and as planned, we’ll have the baby in an excellent hospital in La Paz (one of the best in Bolivia). With the altitude, there is a heightened possibility of high blood pressure during the last days and more chance of needing a cesarean. But we’re confident that whatever happens is in God’s plan.
Love,
Cara, Mache, and the human being swimming around in my belly
