June & Pregnant.

June 1, 2011

Dear friends,

Psalm 131: 1-2

1God, I’m not trying to rule the roost, I don’t want to be king of the mountain.
I haven’t meddled where I have no business
or fantasized grandiose plans.

2 I’ve kept my feet on the ground,
I’ve cultivated a quiet heart.
Like a baby content in its mother’s arms,
my soul is a baby content.

You know that feeling you get sometimes when you feel like a verse in the Bible or a passage in a book was written just for you? I got that feeling when I read this Psalm on a two-day retreat I made just before Easter. During the retreat my focus was on being still and quiet before God, not worrying about the future and just allowing myself to be present to God in the moment where we found ourselves.

Other translations of these verses that I’ve read describe the quiet heart in verse two as the kind that a “weaned baby no longer searching for milk” has. I love that image of a baby in a mother’s arms, resting and trusting. As I took my retreat I was also reflecting on babies and all that they mean to me, since Calvin and I are expecting a new baby in November of this year!

We are so excited! With that excitement we also feel anticipation and some worry about the future and all the challenges a new baby will bring. We are still just getting adjusted to being married and the ministry/life/marriage balancing act, so please pray for us as we prepare for a huge life change! We know God is in control and so we are, particularly I am, cultivating quiet hearts like our baby will hopefully have all the time. 😉 No fussing. 😉

Thankfully we are in a great position to have a baby; we have tons of support here in Omaha, I have a great health insurance plan through Word Made Flesh and I am able to use my support account to pay for the medical deductible and other expenses for all the doctor’s visits and medicines. We are blessed and cared for!

Many thanks and lots of love from Omaha,
