Saying Goodbye

October 14, 2010

Dear Friends,

It is hard to believe I have been at Word Made Flesh and living in Omaha for over three years! In July of 2007, I committed three years to serving the poor with Word Made Flesh in the capacity of Short Term Programs Director and Beggars Society Coordinator. The past three years have been full! I have had the privilege of serving alongside some of the most incredible people that I know. I have had opportunities to learn about the world and myself. I have been blessed with deep, abiding friendships in the Word Made Flesh community and lots of encouragement to seek out my vocation. Over the past year, I appreciated the parts of my job that point me towards my vocation: elements of teaching, an interest in psychology, and a passion for whole health.

As I approached the end of my time commitment with Word Made Flesh, I began to evaluate what I wanted to do next: whether that would be continuing with Word Made Flesh or moving on to other pursuits. With a lot of prayer and counsel, I made the very difficult decision to begin transitioning from Word Made Flesh.

I will continue working for Word Made Flesh through the end of 2010 and will continue to be an advocate for my friends at Word Made Flesh and God’s beloved poor throughout my life. Please pray for us as we search for someone to fill the Short Term Programs Director role in Omaha (and pass along any names!). I will continue to receive a transition stipend from Word Made Flesh through March of 2011.

My hope for the future is to remain involved in the local community here in Omaha. I have enjoyed getting to know my city and my neighborhood! I am considering graduate school for Social Work at the University of Nebraska in the fall of 2011, inspired by the work of our staff overseas.

One of the best parts of my job at Word Made Flesh has been the opportunity to cultivate relationships with you all and to see how God has moved to provide for my needs through friends like you. I do not think I will ever be able to express the depth of my gratitude: thank you. I would love to stay in touch with you after the prayer letters stop periodically (and erratically) appearing in your mailboxes. I would love to hear how you are.

Gratefully,
Marcia Ghali
