Word Made Flesh Bolivia is calling for applications from recent graduates for a four- to six-month internship working with Suti Sana, a handbag small business enterprise providing alternative employment to women working prostitution in El Alto, Bolivia. The internship is intended to attract recent Christian graduates with at least a Bachelors of Arts in Business, Marketing, Graphic Design, and/or Communications, a desire to minister among the poor, and Spanish language abilities. This internship would provide an opportunity to gains hands-on experience in the field of small business development through a variety of supporting activities, including the design and execution of a business plan, marketing strategies, exploring new market niches, and working with the design team. The internship would begin in September or October 2011.
As a community made up of missionaries who raise their own support, this internship is unpaid, and candidates must be willing to raise funds to cover their expenses ($5,000 including airfare). In addition, the intern will live with a Bolivian family who will provide meals. The intern will work directly with a staff member to foster spiritual development.
Word Made Flesh is an organization that desires to see holistic transformation through Christ Jesus for those who prostitute in Bolivia. In community, we seek to practice and proclaim the Kingdom of God among persons affected by prostitution, through relationship and opportunities for transformation. Suti Sana, a unique business as missions venture, is an opportunity for holistic transformation for women working in prostitution. Suti Sana is an economic and therapeutic option for these women which seeks their emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual restoration. Participants take family economic and nutrition classes, participate in group and individual therapy, and join in discipleship, bible study, and worship times. They also receive training in professional sewing, and by the end of their training are able to transition into producing beautiful purses full-time.
