Smile Upon Me
By Hilary
These are someone else’s words. This is someone else’s song. I am not sure if Remedy Drive was thinking intimacy when writing these lyrics or if the reader will think intimacy when reading them. Neither of those things really matter though, because when I sing this song it is my prayer for intimacy with God. When I am at a loss for words and when my normal prayers feel mechanical or even nonexistent, I can hear these words, this music, this refrain, and sing the lyrics that hit me in my soul. The lyrics that narrow the distance between God and myself. And why should I be surprised? God draws us in, is intimate with us, in the most incredible and mysterious ways. For me, I will listen and sing and believe that God is near. I’ll raise my voice though God can hear me thinking.
For you, experience and love whatever it is that offers glimpses of God. God is near.
Remedy Drive, “Smile upon me,” Magnify Album
LYRICS:
I’ll raise my voice though you can hear me thinking
I’ll raise my hands though they’ve been stained with sin
Never raise the floods so high that they might reach me
Will you quiet the sea and calm the storm withinMy God, hear my prayer my God of glory listen to my cry
God of glory as I cry, smile upon me from on high
My God, hear my prayer my God of glory listen to my cry
I’ll speak from on my knees my God smile upon me from on high
I’ll rest beneath the shadow of your mighty wings
In the shadow of the cross I’ll hide
If you would lead me to the deepest healing springs
Flow like blood poured from your wounded sideMy God, hear my prayer, God of glory listen to my cry
God of glory as I cry, smile upon me from on high
My God, hear my prayer my God of glory listen to my cry
I’ll speak from on my knees my God smile upon me from on highMy God of glory turn your face upon me
To quiet restless thought and whispering fear
Your arm is not to short that you can’t reach me
Nor ear too heavy that you cannot hearMy God, hear my prayer, God of glory listen to my cry
God of glory as I cry, smile upon me from on high
My God, hear my prayer my God of glory listen to my cry
I’ll speak from on my knees my God smile upon me from on high
