Word Made Flesh Argentina
2010 Year In Review
Happy New Year from Buenos Aires! Our community is grateful for the partnership and prayers of family and friends in 2010. We want to share some highlights from our year.
January – Our community began the year with a time of retreat and summer fun together. We celebrated the previous year, looked forward to the year ahead, and spent a lot of time playing in the water and slip-n-slide.
March – Seven people who attended the WMF board member orientation will be part of the founding board of the Argentina association that is being registered.
Encuentros activities with the youth resumed after a summer break and take place every two weeks. The focus is accompanying our friends in spiritual development and growth through hospitality and participatory Bible reflections.
April – Our after-school tutoring program (Apoyo Escolar) began, co-coordinated by WMF and members from Iglesia Evangélica Bautista de Constitución.
Encuentros had a weekend retreat for six young adults and four children.
June – Our community completed revisions on our mission statement.
WMF Argentina, in collaboration with Argentine partners, is called to serve and discover Jesus among vulnerable children and young adults living in poverty. Through mutual friendships based on love and trust, we accompany our excluded friends in experiencing and knowing Jesus and a fuller life in God. Intentional hospitality is essential to our ministry creating a space for intimacy with God and neighbor.
July – WMF Argentina staff travel to Nebraska to attend for our triennial WMF Staff Gathering with other North American staff serving around the world.
August – Our second Servant Team arrived to join the community for four months of discipleship, service and vocational exploration.
September – We completed renovations on our new office space.
October – Our community hosted a Mother’s Day celebration at a local park with the many of the moms we spend time with.
Several from our community participated in a self-portrait project, “Portraits of the Soul,” sponsored by Greenly Art Space in California. Our self-portrait contributions were displayed at a Café Concert event at our local church.
November – We submitted the final paperwork to register our Argentina association, called El Verbo Entre Nosotros.
December – Our community concluded the year with a year-end retreat. Our time together included our first covenant ceremony for Walter and Adriana Forcatto, affirming and celebrating our commitments to the Forcattos before they began their sabbatical.
Our WMF community and our Argentine partners hosted an Encuentros Christmas party for the youth.
We enter 2011 with thanksgiving for the many meaningful encounters of the past year and with hope for all God will bring to pass in the year to come. Your prayers, accompaniment and financial generosity continue to be a source of strength for our community, and our fervent prayer is that we all, together, might more deeply know “the hope to which he has called [us], the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe” (Ephesians 1:18b).
With Gratitude, The WMF Argentina Community
