You speak of freedom and of vengeance.
I didn’t think you were like the others.
We watch Batman and believe vengeance
equals justice,
But elsewhere you tell, Love your enemies.
Freedom, freedom for the prisoner.
Dance delicately and deliberately
into your freedom.
O oppressed one, find your voice.
Yet we know no one is purely victim
and no one is all wicked.
You came to set free the prisoner
and the guard — like the one Paul meets.
You came for the captive and the keeper,
And they are both within.
Freedom, release.
Dawn
rising.
Recognizing in someone else’s eyes
the sun that warms us
and brings life.
It speaks of brotherhood and binding together
but not being bound.
(Marcia led us in prayer, writing after we read through Isaiah 61.)
