May 2010
Dear family and friends,
Greeting from Lima! We are entering into fall in the city, with some cooler temperatures and the return of the coastal fog. We were finally able to take a short trip to the beach with some friends which we all enjoyed very much. Tali spent her time at the beach getting sand into every crevice of her body; Isa set up a makeshift long jump track amazing all of us with her leaps.
Thanks to a generous gift from some friends, Rachel was able to make a trip to San Francisco and visit Sarah Dobrin, our dear friend who was battling colon cancer and has now been officially diagnosed as CANCER FREE! They were able to spend some much needed time together, and debriefed about the events of the past year including Sarah’s abrupt departure from Lima, and she and Sebastian’s plans after they get married on June 29th. By the time you read this letter, Sebastian will have left his family, friends, and the community in Peru and arrived to San Francisco to begin this next phase of his life together with Sarah. God willing, we will be able to attend the wedding as a family as witnesses to God’s faithfulness in the midst of very difficult circumstances.
Please remember us in prayer as we walk with the community in Peru through a number of staff transitions in 2010. Sebastian Sevilla leaves on April 15th, and Linsey Higgins will be leaving the end of May. Mike Pastor is finishing a trial period and we will be evaluating a permanent contract for him. The Ingrum family (Geoff, Raechel, and kids) are doing language training and their plan is to begin to integrate into the communities ministries and activities after August of this year. Amy Lahey is approved staff but is unable to sell her house in Atlanta, so has been waiting patiently on God’s timing. Also, we are also considering hiring a couple more Peruvians and we will be responsible for their orientation.
Lastly, we ask that you remember our family’s financial needs and respond as God leads you. The graph included below tracks our support account from July 2009 until March 2010. We are thankful that your response to our challenge to raise $10,000 in addition to our regular monthly support has brought our account out of the negative. Praise God for that, and thank you! Currently, we have $1,000 to apply towards our plane tickets to the US. Based on current ticket prices, we will need a total of $5,000 to be able to purchase our tickets, which means we need $4,000 more to cover that cost. The other component of our original $10,000 challenge was to have a cushion of $2,000 in our support account for unforeseen expenses. We still need $6,000 in addition to regular monthly support to meet our goal. Thank you in advance for responding to this challenge prayerfully.
Thank for walking with our family in ministry, and for loving us across the miles!
