November 2009

Hello friends!

I hope this letter finds you enjoying the changing of seasons and the yummy flavors of fall. This is my favorite season – I love the cooler weather, the beauty of the changing leaves, the arrival of pumpkin spice lattes and the opportunity to pull out my warm, fuzzy blankets!I hope that you are finding time to slow down a bit and enjoy your favorite things about the season as well.

I am writing to share some exciting news with you. Many of you have already heard, but for those who haven’t…

After lots of prayer and seeking discernment, I have decided to return to Peru to serve as full-time staff with the Word Made Flesh community in Lima.As you know, I first went to Lima on a 4-month Servant team with Word Made Flesh back in 2004.Some of you played a part in sending me out on that first trip, and I am so thankful for you!It was during that trip to Lima that I saw and experienced extreme poverty for the first time. The everyday reality of suffering and injustice that marked the lives of the children and youth on the street broke my heart and impacted my life profoundly. The Lord spoke to me of His love and concern for the poor – for my friends on the street – and changed my life in the process.

Over the past 5 years, I have visited the staff and youth in Lima often. My love for Peru and for the people and community there has grown, but I have struggled to determine exactly how the Lord was calling me to be a part of the ministry there. Over the past year, I have come to clearly realize that the Lord is calling me back to Lima. So, in faith and obedience I am planning to move to Lima for three years beginning in 2010. Though it is a big (and scary) step, I am so excited about this next journey in my life, and am looking forward to the Lord’s blessings and provision along the way.

I invite you to walk alongside me on this journey. I am so grateful for those of you who have been faithfully praying for me through this (seemingly long) season of discernment. I will need continued prayer support through this current season of preparation and especially as I begin life in Lima. I will also need faithful financial supporters. I humbly ask you to consider whether the Lord may be asking you to join me in this way. I will need to raise at least 3 months salary before I am able to leave. I am also still in the process of selling my home here in Loganville, and invite you to join me in praying for a buyer! I am confident that the Lord has just the person in mind!

Love and blessings,

Amy
